| Prescription Drug Help There are many options for saving on prescription costs: public programs, free or low cost assistance through drug manufacturers, discount cards or prescriptions from Canada and other countries. Some programs are based on financial guidelines and may be for those who have no prescription coverage. Medicare Part D For people on Medicare, the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit, also known as Medicare Part D, is another option for helping with prescription expenses. Canadian Drug Program (Minnesota RxConnect™) Minnesota RxConnect™ (Off Site) provides information on medicine, safety, cost savings and ordering lower-cost prescription medicine from Canada and other countries. Patient Assistance Programs Many drug manufacturers have free or low cost assistance programs to help people get access to their prescriptions. These programs most often require the applicant to be low-income and without prescription drug coverage. Only certain medications are included in the free and low cost programs. Prescription Discount Cards Some drug manufacturers offer discount cards for those who may not meet the financial guidelines for their free or low cost Patient Assistance Programs. These cards usually involve a co-pay for a monthly supply of medication. The drug manufacturers’ cards may also have income guidelines and possibly other restrictions. |
